Moccasin Creek State Park

Moccasin Creek State Park

Moccasin Creek State Park, nestled on the shores of Lake Burton in the scenic North Georgia mountains, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly hikers. Known as the “park where spring spends the summer,” Moccasin Creek offers beautiful natural surroundings, serene lakeside views, and access to a range of trails that showcase the diverse flora and fauna of the region.

Hiking in Moccasin Creek State Park

The park features a short but scenic trail known as the Hemlock Falls Trail. This 2-mile round-trip hike is family-friendly and takes visitors along Moccasin Creek, culminating at the beautiful Hemlock Falls. The trail is relatively easy, making it suitable for hikers of all skill levels, and the sound of rushing water and the dense, shady forest provide a tranquil hiking experience. The trail is well-maintained and offers opportunities for wildlife sightings, including birds and small mammals.

For those looking for more of a challenge, the park serves as an excellent base for exploring the nearby Appalachian Trail. The Dicks Creek Gap section of the Appalachian Trail is just a short drive from the park and offers more strenuous hiking with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hikers can also access the Bartram Trail, which intersects the Appalachian Trail and provides another option for longer, more rugged hikes.
